VISIO by Nava + Arosio Studio
(01/06/2024 China Debut)Paolo Emanuele Nava (1989) and Luca Maria Arosio (1988) founded Nava + Arosio Studio in 2018 and designed the ‘Visio’ collection for Masiero in 2023. The Italian designers’ duo divides their time between their Milan based studio and their multifunctional atelier in Lissone.
Research and experimentation are the driving force behind Nava + Arosio's ‘Humanistic’ design, a combination of content and aesthetics, fine-tuned to best meet the expectations of the company and, ultimately, those of the person who relies on the company: man.
Starting from the idea of wanting to create a new luminous alphabet that could become a sign, an astonishment and light in space, with Visio they succeeded in bringing out a multitude of different imagery, using a few lines inspired by the somatic features of the face.
Visio is the synthesis of a sign that allows us to draw infinite physiognomies and interpretations in space, be they realist or surrealist
His name, chosen in collaboration with Masiero, comes from Latin and means ‘sight - apparition - spectacle’, all characteristics that this lamp brings with it.
The choice of materials was immediately clear, precisely because it was designed to emphasise Masiero's know-how, namely metalworking.
As far as finishes and colours are concerned, Visio lends itself to infinite interpretations, from the most classic and elegant in a chocolate-coloured finish to bolder solutions.
Visio is an extremely flexible collection that offers many possible combinations, a light alphabet suitable for every environment, from retail to home to contract. In 2023, Visio won the Good Design Award, a prestigious international accolade, for the lighting design category.
Hints of the surrealist world, layers of meaning to be discovered one by one in the many different possible configurations of Visio's facial geometries, an ode to the iconographic apparatus and expressiveness of the face for the young design duo Nava + Arosio.
Polished chocolate-colored painted metal tubing is curved to generate a face in its entirety or compositions of mouths, noses, ears and eyes either in the form of suspensions or as wall compositions; mixing mysticism and geometry, unpredictable variations on the theme of imagination.
An aesthetic vocabulary in which the extreme attention to detail, the light etching faces and shaping the volumes of environments, reveals the new while remaining faithful to Masiero's DNA, a heritage of skilled workmanship and attention to detail.
