(01/06/2024 China Debut)weaving dimensional textures
Los Angeles artist Katy Ann Gilmore is deeply fascinated by human perception of space. Through meticulous lines and repetitive interweaving, Gilmore achieves a cross-dimensional effect, which mirroring the essence of traditional Tibetan craftsmanship. When Gilmore's creations are translated onto Tibetan rugs, the grainy textures of the carpets intertwine with her three-dimensional drawings, creating a new level of complexity. Starting from a single point made by a marker and a strand of wool on the loom, the tangible brushstrokes and textures created by hand enhance our interpretation of spatial manipulation. This reveals that the joy of three-dimensional space extends far beyond mere visual perception.
