From joint venture to self-owned brand, Zhang Ming has accumulated nearly two decades of experience in automotive styling design. In October 2017, he built the Hongqi styling design team and established the whole system, including design philosophy, design DNA, design processes and quality standards. Since then, he has been leading the team in designing over 30 products under three major Hongqi sub-brands, many of which have won design awards. In July 2019, he launched in Beijing the "Neo-Sublime Aesthetics" initiative. This aimed at building an aesthetic system for Chinese automotive design to enhance China’s influence and voice in this field, while facilitating cross-border cooperation between Hongqi Design and cultural institutions like the Palace Museum and Dunhuang Museum, art and design universities such as Central Academy of Fine Arts and Luxun Academy of Fine Arts, as well as many artists. In this way, industrial design is empowered by culture, fine arts, and traditional crafts, enabling the exploration and refinement of Hongqi’s design aesthetics in practice. In sum, his efforts have positioned Hongqi Design as a pioneering force in advancing Chinese automotive design and in defining the image of "Chinese cars" in the new era, thus significantly contributing to the rapid development of this sector.
