Yibo XU
Dr. Yibo Xu is a practitioner of the "Vertical Forest" and "Forest City" concepts in Asia and a registered first-class architect in China. He currently serves as the Partner and General Manager of Stefano Boeri Architetti (SBA) China, secretary-General of the Sino-Italy Creative Industries Committee,as well as the General Coordinator for the China region of the Milan Triennale.
With decades of experience in green design practices in both Europe and Asia, Dr. Xu has held positions at Cino Zucchi Associati (CZA) in Milan and the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) in Rotterdam. Since 2010, he has been responsible for SBA's Vertical Forest project in Milan and co-founded SBA China in 2014, overseeing projects in China and Southeast Asia.
Dr. Xu has previously taught at the School of Architecture of the Politecnico di Milano and has published numerous papers on urban renewal and green architecture in domestic and international journals. He has also translated and edited several Italian works, including the specialized volume "A Vertical Forest." Additionally, he has delivered a TED talk titled "Vertical Forests in the City" and presented keynote speeches at events such as the CTBUH Shanghai International Conference and the CTBUH Chicago Conference.
In addition to his academic and professional endeavors, Dr. Xu has participated in various architectural exhibitions worldwide, including the 2014 Venice Architecture Biennale, Beijing Design Week, Shanghai Urban Space Art Season 2015, Shanghai 2116 Plan, Shanghai Urban Space Mars Planting Program in 2017, and the 2021 Cartier Contemporary Art Foundation exhibition "Trees, Trees." He has served as the General Coordinator for the China region of the Milan Triennale, Assistant Curator for Susas in 2017, Joint Curator for the APSMUSEUM "How it Flows On" Spring Exhibition in 2021, and the executive curator of the 9th Bi-city Biennial of Urban and Architecture (Shenzhen) Qianhai Collateral Exhibition 2022. As the Secretary-General of the Sino-Italy Creative Industries Committee, he is responsible for coordinating the participation of the Chinese Pavilion in the 2025 Milan Triennale.
As an advocate and practitioner, he introduced the concept of the Milan Vertical Forest to Asia and has been involved in the construction of projects such as the Shenzhen Rehabilitation Center, Huanggang Vertical Forest Urban Complex, Nanjing Vertical Forest and Bailian Group Fashion Center Yanqingli. Furthermore, he led the comprehensive planning and design project for the Ramagramma Stupa in Nepal.
