Once a fishing town in South China’s Guangdong province, Shenzhen is now one of the best-known economic miracles of the past 40 years. Today, its gross domestic product ranks third among Chinese mainland cities, after Beijing and Shanghai. As a UNESCO Creative City of Design since 2008, the city is now home to over 100,000 design enterprises. Shenzhen's culture and creative industries have maintained sound and rapid development with innovative design as a leading force, expected to generate at least 300 billion yuan ($45.5 billion) in revenue by 2035.
